Projects for me vary in creative expression. The projects I list here were projects I completed as part of my Master's degree in Educational Technology.
Project 1: Digital Portfolio Website
The first project is this website. My original portfolio was compeleted three years ago and was my first experience in creating a full website. My web development skills have greatly improved since then. This whole site is built using CSS instead of tables and HTML formating. I created the entire site from the graphics to the code. It's feels great to mark this project done! Don't worry, in about a year I'll re-design it so that I can apply new skills I will acquire.
Project 2: Speech Webquest
Three years later today this is my favorite project and the one I am most proud. I really like the design of the site, although my first draft as it is posted now is novice in coding. Alas, this site is actually used by teachers. I've had a few emails from teachers, mostly sending me corrections to content, but at least I know the site is used. And, I can see the metrics of my website and these pages, particulary the review, gets the most hits! That is exciting to me because I designed the interactive activities and determined how technology would be used to teach the curriculum. I wanted to come up with interactive activities to motivate the students and also create the opportunity for peer learning. The biggest challenge was understanding the target audience. The English teacher I had as a SME quit responding to me so I never received feedback on this project from a SME perspective. My next step with this project is to clean up the code.
Project3
This webquest was a group project. Our SME in this case, a professor at Penn State, was very hands on. He emailed us his content for an assignment. I don't really consider this a webquest since the tasks are not interactive. The goal was to learn about art museums. I would have preferred to have students form small groups, choose a job position from a museum and then visit a museum to interview the person who actually does their selected role. Then I'd have them collaborate on how each person's role impacts the museum and each other's job. The final assignment would have been a presentation revealing the information and lessons they have learned. However, the site met the instructor's needs and I learned how to use Fireworks. Looking at this site today, I can see how CSS would clean up the code drastically! Another project added to my list!
